1. C&O Canal Towpath (Beginner–Intermediate)
The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Towpath runs 184.5 miles from Washington, D.C. to Cumberland, Maryland. The section near Harpers Ferry is flat, well-maintained, and offers stunning views of the Potomac River. It's ideal for beginners and a great option for longer distance rides.

2. Appalachian Trail (Advanced)
The AT passes directly through Harpers Ferry, and while much of it is too rocky for horses, there are sections accessible to equestrians. Check current regulations before riding — some sections are restricted.
